We hope our community are keeping safe and well during these tough times in Melbourne and Victoria. Most clubs and players have been impacted by COVID-19 and it is unfortunate that we have lost some players to home in recent weeks and months. Gaelic Games Victoria (GGV) committee wish everyone who has returned back to Ireland well and we hope to see you back in Melbourne soon.
While in our last correspondence on 28 May 2020 we were hopeful to be returning to games, and most clubs got a few weeks training in, due to the current government restrictions and challenging situation in Melbourne we ceased all training last Wednesday 10 July. We had initially planned a return to games for 25/26 July 2020 and had just met with all clubs to discuss the proposed League & Championship.
The GGV Committee met last Tuesday 9 July 2020, and we have made the difficult decision to postpone the season as it stands as there is so much uncertainty about what lies ahead for Melbourne and Victoria. This means, that for now there will be no further games in Melbourne and the League and Championship have been cancelled.
Geelong Gaels have been able to continue training as they are not in the lock down area, and we would like to wish them well and we will be working closely with them to make sure all COVID guidelines are in place.
We have been meeting every 2 weeks through this period and we will continue to work on the 2021 season and if the situation changes we will be in touch with all clubs and players.
Kind Regards,
Claire Gallagher
